We will take a look into Byrd's 1939-1940 ill-fated attempt to explore Antarctica utilizing a special built monstrous machine called the Snow Cruiser. While en route to the West Coast, the Snow Cruiser crashed in Gomer, Ohio bring 15 minutes of fame to that tiny community It later crashed nose first into a nearby creek. When it finally reached Antarctica, it failed almost immediately for the last time and was used by Byrd as a base for his expedition. The Cruiser was then abandoned. Byrd completed his exploration using airplanes and ships. The Snow Cruiser was last seen in 1958 buried in the snow. Instructor: Dan Baker
