We have all read some facts about the French Revolution which started in 1789 and, by some accounts, ended with Napoleon taking power of the country in 1799. To put this information in context, this course will give a timeline of key events and include information about the major players. The surprising role of women in a decisive event will be highlighted. There will be extensive information about one leader who had a strong connection with the U.S., the Marquis de Lafayette. His life will be described through the writings of Mike Duncan in his book "Hero of Two Worlds." Interesting fact: Layette actually visited Ohio late in his life. A final section of the course will describe France at the end of these troubled times as they faced the 19th Century. Dr. Andy Jorgensen is Professor Emeritus at the University of Toledo. He has spent considerable time living and studying in Europe, including a year doing research at a French university. Instructor; Andy Jorgensen
